MKE NYE

Ringing in 2011 in Milwaukee with family, friends, and great food & drink! And extreme weather - crazily warm, in the 50s, on NYE; back down to the teens on NY day, brrr.

(apologies for the crappy camera phone photos - this weekend was about chillin’, which means I refrained from my overenthusiastic-foodie habit of annoying hungry people - making them wait precious seconds (ok, usually minutes) for me to bust out the dslr and take 1000 pics before they can dig in…)

Well-seasoned and hearty meatloaf and beer gravy at triple-D approved Comet Cafe, hipster-ish, slow food home of delicious, made-from-scratch comfort food. The compact turkey dinner of fried turkey balls, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy was also extremely tasty (but unfortunately not pictured, but perhaps even better, Guy hooked us up with the recipe). Even the brussel sprouts, which I normally hate, were yummy!

Fresh, flavorful, filling bagel and lox plate for brunch at the Knick(erbocker). Really loved the great texture and fresh flavor of the smoked salmon combined with the lettuce, tomato, and salty capers on top of a chewy, toasted bagel. Barely missed the hint of lemon I always add.

Crab hash for the birthday boy. Couldn’t really taste the crab from the bites I stole, but tasty all the same. And fried eggs and toast (rye) are always good :D

Not pictured but definitely worth mentioning - super creamy, super delicious frozen custard at Kopp’s. Despite frigid outdoor weather, the Jan 1st special Rose Bowl flavor was perfect - I think it was a combo of berry custard, rose essence, shortbread, and some sort of chocolate. YUM.
